Program Descriptions

Our Commitment to Diversity: HFL programs attract participants of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, and diverse cultural attitudes toward touch are respectfully discussed. Some materials are in Spanish as well as English. The lullaby taught to soothe infants and enhance TC sessions is sung in Bengali, Spanish and English.

CIIM - Certification Training for Instructors of Infant Massage (Level I)
HFL's primary program is the Certification Training for Instructors of Infant massage (CIIM). This four-day course develops the participant's ability to teach parents the art of nuturing touch and respectful communication with their infants and young children. Participants learn about Infant Massage Communication skill; Touch Communication™ (TC) skills, strokes and sequencing; individualizing TC to the child's needs, cues, and behavioral states; nurturing and empowering parents; relaxation practices for parents; and TC as a catalyst for personal and prfessional growth. Organizations may schedule on-site staff trainings. (four have already been scheduled for this year). Please call or visit our Web site regarding workshop dates and registration. 30.9 CE hours available for RNs,OTRs and other professionals.


Bonding, Massage and Touch Communication™ For Children and Families with Special Needs (Level II)

This workshop will provide training to those who wish to deepen in their capacity to use their Infant Massage: Touch Communication skills to meet the individual requirements and needs of Children with Special Needs and their families.

This workshop will provide advanced training to those who wish to deepen in their capacity to use HFL’s Infant Massage and Touch Communication skills to meet the individual requirements and needs of Children with Special Needs and their families. Participants learn how to adapt and utilize HFL’s principles and methodology to support development and outcomes that enhance the quality of life and relationships for the entire family.

This training is also offered onsite to staff of Early Intervention Agencies, as well as at HFL’s sponsored training sites


Compassionate Beginnings™ in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (formerly known as Compassionate Touch)
Medical professionals learn methods and principles of Compassionate Beginnings™ in support of neuro-development and healthy outcomes. Compassionate Beginnings™ builds the capacity of staff and Family Centered Care services. Staff model and teach families developmentally appropriate parenting skills while in the hi-tech hospital setting. This directly contributes to baby(s) and parents’ early and pleasurable bonding - leading to secure attachments and outcomes. Going Deeper: A Year’s Intensive for Touch Communication Teachers
This new program will be led by HFL Director Kalena Babeshoff and is open to those who have completed the Level I training. In day-long retreats held quarterly on weekends in Sonoma, Kalena will guide a small group in exploring empathic communication, cultivating compassion, and self-care. A wonderful opportunity to discover the deeper truths of Touch Communication and harvest benefits in your personal relationships and work.
